If constant stress has you feeling lost, overwhelmed, completely exhausted and like you can never meet the constant demands of your life...you may be dealing with burnout!  

Burnout is a state of extreme emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress that has never been addressed. 

COVID has brought so many different forms of emotion to so many of us and burnout is at the forefront of this!

Burnout is actually considered an epidemic in our current world.  Surrounded by devices and never being able to switch off  is making it more and more difficult for anyone to live in the moment and walk away from constant “busyness”!

For me….COVID caused  my lingering burnout to slap me in the face!!!!

For so many years I felt  it building, ignored the signs and instead, like most busy people, I kept pushing myself onwards. Constantly pushing myself  to be this person I felt I had to be in order to be successful in all areas of my life. BUT what was actually happening was I was slowly losing myself to burn out and constant negative thoughts about life and myself!

At the peak of COVID and the restrictions my business, as I knew it, was swept out from under my feet.  Yes, I did pivot and am prospering now, BUT not before I went through burnout. It manifested as complete emotional exhaustion, feeling constantly drained, tired and unable to cope with the most simple of tasks...oh and don’t even get me started on the negative thoughts and self talk .

My body felt like lead….every day I was just going through the motions to get the home schooling done, rebuild a business that had crashed to the ground and support my family the best I could!

Other signs of burnout include the inability to cope with anything, constantly snapping at your loved ones, feeling drained and tired all the time.  You have difficulty concentrating, often lack creativity, always letting things slip and forgetting important appointments, etc.

Here’s some great and simple ways to overcome burnout and stay motivated with life:

  • FOCUS ON MEANING – Focus on WHY something matters to you and connect every action with your larger personal goal.  My favourite WHY is focusing on working towards family holidays switched off from the world
  • TAKE BREAKS FOR YOU – Even if it's just 5 minutes.  Practice being quiet in your mind and allow any thoughts to pass through as you come back to the “quiet”.  I use a really great meditation app called “1GiantMind” which is great for meditation and learning how to quiet your mind
  • PUT DOWN THE PHONE – In our culture today we are constantly not justonly psychologically but physiologically attached to the outside world.  Make a time when you will put your phone away and only focus on what is here in front of you
  • START SAYING NO – Trust me it is so empowering to set your boundaries and stop saying yes to everyone all the time!!
  • GET MOVING & MAKE EXERCISE A PRIORITY – Even if in the beginning it is a small walk and builds from there. Get outside and soak up that Vitamin D

The most effective tool to help you overcome burnout and find your way back to YOU is to REFRAME YOUR MIND.


Whatever your situation is right now, there are always steps you can take to improve your state of mind.  

Remember to be gentle on yourself and approach the new YOU calmly.  Discover the right path for YOU, you don’t have to have all the answers at once.
